The BARF (Bias Annealing at the Replication Fork) model. A model for the replication fork, adapted from [34] is illustrated showing a complex between the helicase DnaB (yellow triangle) and DNA PolII (blue shape) proceeding to the left, with leading strand product emerging at the above right. On either side of DnaB, single stranded DNA is depicted as being exposed before entry into DNA PolIII for 5'-3' synthesis in a similar way for both strands. For this to be possible, the single stranded lagging strand template must make a loop. The complex of phage annealing protein and ss oligo is depicted above and below with the exposed ss template regions indicated by arrows.
