The average level of the transcripts of the mutant virus is lower in the early stage, but higher in the late stage of infection. (B) The R ¯ values of the different kinetic classes of mutant and wt viruses. In the mutant virus, the L genes are repressed in the early stage of infection, whereas the E gene expressions are enhanced in the late stage of infection.
